Drawing Practice (ongoing)

Jin uses various materials such as acrylic, colored pencil, graphite, watercolor, and gouache to depict the colors, lines, textures, and spatial relationships (such as interweaving, compression, etc.) that she aims to convey through sculpture-making. These drawings are not strictly preparatory sketches but more like the result of a dialogue between herself and the sculptures. Sometimes they represent her understanding of the sculpting process, sometimes they visually translate the sculptural materials, and other times they serve as a way to release emotional and self-conscious impulses. The process of making sculpture is highly complex, as the artist continually decomposes and recomposes the relationships between materials. By showing these drawings, Jin wants to provide the audience with a more multi-dimensional context for the process of creation.
