Minded Bamboo

2022; ceramics, tape measures, mechanical devices; variable sizes

This work is a kinetic sculptural installation. When I wandered through the classic gardens of Suzhou, I saw many Chinese orchids with gently bending leaves, which reminded me of the falling of tape measure. I have attempted to create a new measurement relationship through this installation that mimics the growth of leaves and the process of growth and failure in general. The analogy between the functionality of man-made tools and the physicality of natural objects allows the audience new possibilities to reinterpret everyday objects.
